About Snap365

Profile

I bought my first digital camera in 2003 so that I could take pictures on my holiday to Mexico. I bought a Canon IXUX IIs and loved it. I was immediately hooked on photography, and quite quickly became frustrated with the limitations of such a basic 'point and click' camera.

In 2006 I had the opportunity to buy a digital SLR 2nd hand from a friend of mine at a reasonable price. I snapped up the offer and became the proud owner of a Nikon D100. Starting out with a single lens, I soon discovered the potential this hobby has for emptying your wallet. Before long I had a decent camera bag, a number of lenses, a speedlight flashgun, tripod, cleaning kits, portable storage devices, spare batteries, memory cards, the list goes on.

After a while, when I'd exhausted my imagination for photography, I became more involved in other things and my photography was put on a back-burner. I spent more time working, moved house a couple of times, got a new job, and soon it was the latter end of 2009 and I realised I'd not taken a single photo with my SLR for over 6 months. Clearly having such an expensive bag of kit sitting dormant is a complete waste, and spending any more money on new equipment would be utter madness. I'd really like to buy Nikon's 18-200mm VRII lens, but can't justify the cost when I'm not using my camera.

And so this project, Snap365, was born!

My mission is to take a photo every day of 2010, and upload them here. I can't promise that they'll be amazing photos, and I'm sure it wont be long before I'm struggling for ideas, but if I can complete this project then in my mind I can justify keeping my camera gear, and even maybe buying a new lens or two. If I complete the entire project without missing a single day, I might even treat myself to a new camera body in 2011!

So, hello from me!
